Plaid Outfits for Fall Family Photos

Our family photos are in! We hadn’t taken professional photos since this time last year, and had no pro photos of A at all, so it was definitely time to get it done. I usually print them out for all of the grandparents, and use them on our Christmas cards.

It was a ‘get out the door at the first crack of light’ kind of shoot, and the kids were grumpy, plus I didn’t think about my own hair or outfit hard enough, but I think they’ll be cute photos for our Christmas cards.

For our outfits, I was inspired by images like these from Fancy Ashley and Classy Girls Wear Pearls, respectively. Our actual outfit choices were more on the neutral side than the colourful, but I aimed for plaids and denim! I only wish I would have picked darker shoes for A, or tied tan in somewhere else.

If you’re going for a similar look I have a few ideas!

This kids’ shirt from Gymboree or its similarly patterned companion in baby and toddler sizes are perfect for both boys and girls. I also love this blocky flannel plaid (in baby to toddler sizes)! You can add it to something like a silver tutu skirt or jeans.

For the grownups, I found a few similar picks on Amazon. Matt’s outfit was easy — black and white plaid and jeans go with anything! I tied a chambray shirt over an existing black and white floral dress (I would’ve preferred a plaid or geometric pattern but I worked with what I had). I think a skater skirt would look good too!

There you have it. As usual, I try to buy things for special occasions that will still work with the rest of our wardrobes for every day use, and all of these outfit picks can definitely be reused.

Mom Style: Joules

My wardrobe has some really basic requirements now — easy to put on in thirty seconds after a shower, easy to nurse in, and not too precious (because babies = all kinds of things all over your clothing). For awhile, that meant yoga pants and nursing tanks and t-shirts, which didn’t leave me feeling very stylish. Thankfully I’ve managed to upgrade! I’ve traded yoga pants for (stretchy) skinny jeans, and t-shirts for comfortable sweaters and button-downs.

So, when Joules offered to send me something to review, I was super excited to see all of the great options on their website that would fit right into my ‘mom style’. I’d never heard of the brand before but quickly had 10 different tabs open in my browser, each with a different shirt, tunic or dress I loved. It was hard to narrow it down, and I actually sent them three different items I’d love to have and left the decision up to them because I couldn’t do it!

When the package came in the mail it felt like opening up a gift because I didn’t know what’d be inside. I unfolded the Creme Bird Rosamund blouse and couldn’t wait to put it on.

The nursery is my new outfit photo place, haha! But I can’t show you my bottom half, because I’m wearing men’s socks pulled up to my calves. Trendy, right?
