I don’t claim to be an expert on postpartum wear — I don’t really know much about what I’ll need — but I’ve started thinking about it because I’m so sick of my small number of maternity items but don’t want to spend the money to buy more, when I only have six weeks to go, give or take. Window shopping for stuff I can picture myself wearing without the giant belly is more fun.
I’m thinking that for the first few weeks I’m going to want to be comfortable but pulled together enough that if I do leave the house, I won’t feel like too much of a frump. I’ve scouted out some yoga pants and leggings that seem like they’d do the trick — the key thing I’m drawn to is either some sort of interesting feature like the waistband on the Alloy pants, or a skinny leg like the Forever21 pants. Skinny-leg sweats and thicker leggings should be okay for daytime weather, even in November/October/December, and I can wear them with easily slipped-on boots.
I’m planning (hoping?) to breastfeed. I have a few nursing tanks but not that many, so far. It seems like button-up shirts should work, though, along with looser-knit tees and sweaters that can be pulled up or over.
And, I figure a scarf or two will help me feel less like I’m in loungewear — at least I can say I accessorized!
My wardrobe budget is essentially non-existent right now and that isn’t gonna change any time soon, so I plan to go through my closet to see what works, then pick up some inexpensive basics and sale items. Hopefully I don’t end up caught in the sweats-and-husband’s-t-shirt trap!
