Ah, the dreaded newlywed weight. I wasn’t really trying to get skinnier for our wedding (though I did pick up running a month before the big day — which ended when I got bronchitis on our honeymoon) but I’ve packed on some winter/lazy inspired pounds. Not a huge amount, but I am starting to feel sluggish and slow and sick.
(Weight is always a tricky subject to discuss — I cast zero judgement on anyone of any size; I just know that I feel more energetic and even-keeled when I am healthier, and I’ve recently hit about the top range of how heavy I want to be, especially after losing a bunch of weight in the past to the point that I don’t want to undo said work.)
Anyway. I’ve lost about five pounds since my birthday, just by eating more vegetables, watching my portion sizes, and working out. I think exercise is important, too! My motivation is to get into better shape before spring so I can start the season off by feeling well. And I really want to get my core strength up to snuff before we have babies.
Just feeling healthier is a pretty good motivation, but… I like money.
Enter DietBet — you can sign up with friends, enter in a $20 bet which goes into a pool, and attempt to lose 4% of your body weight in four weeks. If you ‘win’, you split the pot with everyone else who wins, thus, hopefully, getting your $20 back and then some!
Some of my internet buddies started up a pool and I threw my twenty in. The game starts February 11, if you want to join us! (Click here to get in on it.)

I still have newlywed weight… and we were married oh almost 7 years ago!
Haha!
I am trying to get outside with the boys, now that the weather is nice and they are riding bikes. Keeping up with them is a good workout, if I can stick with it!
Running around with kids has got to be a great workout! I don’t know how they manage to be so energetic.
I am finishing up my first ever diet bet now, and it has been great motivation. I want those $20 back!
I’m really excited for it to start!
i totally need to get in on this. my wedding dress came in and i tried it on for the first time in 6 months this past weekend…it fits pretty well, but i don’t feel great in it. i’m heading over to dietbet to sign up now! nothing like money and a wedding dress to jump start your motivation haha
If it weren’t for the running program that happened to start up before our wedding I think I would have been in rough shape, dress-wise!
