The January TOPbox was a really fun surprise for me! I took off the mailing paper and realized it wasn’t my usual eco-friendly box — and then I saw the Clinique logo. I have a soft spot for Clinque ever since my Dad bought me Happy for my first perfume. I’ve never used anything from them other than Happy but I’ve admired a lot of their products from afar.
TOPbox is rolling out a new feature where you can choose between a regular box or a Prive box, the Prive box being full of one brand’s products rather than from a variety of companies (I requested the Benefit box for February!). So, this was a sneak peak of what the Prive boxes can be like.
Ta-da! Once again all of my stuff was FREEZING cold by the time I got it out of the mailbox but everything seemed to be okay despite the -42 temperatures (not kidding).
First up — eye makeup remover. I have yet to use it, but I have yet to find an eye makeup remover I really like (the closest I’ve come to a good one is the cream from Avon). And then we have, of course, wrinkle cream, my nemesis… except I think I need to actually start using this stuff instead of shoving it into a drawer and deluding myself into thinking that I can’t possibly have lines yet. Haven’t used this yet either but I appreciate the concept.
The clarifying lotion seems to have mixed reviews but I liked it. I’m confused by it being a ‘lotion’ though, because it really seems more like a toner to me. I could feel the alcohol stinging my face, which is iffy for someone with sensitive skin like me, but I didn’t see any adverse effects from it and my skin actually felt a bit smoother and nicer after I applied it.
As for the eyeshadow palette, I can always be won over with makeup. I was a bit concerned with applying pink eyeshadow — I didn’t want to look like I had pinkeye! — but it’s a really soft, light colour on me, and the powder blends very nicely. I would definitely pick up Clinique shadow in the future.
I’m really curious to see what the February box will be! I think this Prive concept might keep me in the TOPbox game a bit longer.

I’ve always been a big fan of Clinique’s eyeshadows, and especially their lip glosses too! Never too sticky.
I really, really like the eyeshadow! Most impressive thing I’ve received in a sample box I think.
You should try using coconut oil as an eye makeup remover — or really, a Step One for facial cleansing. Apply the oil then use a hot cloth and a gentle cleanser to wipe it all away afterwards. Very nourishing.
Coconut oil is like $8000 here!
Damn! Well, really, any oil will work. I can always get dad to send some up to you, in the future…Well.ca also seems to ship free to Sioux Lookout, and that’s where I get my coconut oil (using a $10 off $40 coupon code and getting some other shit, as well).
I’ll have to double-check the price next time I’m in Dryden but I remember seeing it at the bulk store and boggling at the price (and it involves driving to Dryden which is not really my jam in this snow). I’ll check out Well.ca, too, though — been meaning to meander through there.
Yay, what a fun box! Someone told me years ago (it was probably a Clinique saleslady) to just start using the eye cream early and it could help prevent future wrinkles. Who knows if that’s true or not.
Haha, I’m getting mad at my forehead wrinkles. Matt says they aren’t wrinkles yet… I forget what word he used though.
