Who are you?
I’m Shayla, the author of this blog (obviously). I’m in my mid-twenties, married, and happy. I work at a small newspaper, live in a small house, and spend my spare time taking pictures, writing, cooking, and generally adventuring.
Where do you live?
I live in Northwestern Ontario — you’ll find me about mid-way between Thunder Bay and Winnipeg. It’s a small town with a definite small-town feel, but we travel to the city often enough that I don’t go completely crazy.
Who is Matt/Marbles/Maggie/Bob/etc.?
There are a few people that will routinely pop up on this blog. Matt is my husband, whom I met when I moved here. We dated for about two years before he proposed. I love him a whole bunch!
We have three cats, Murphy, Marbles and Maggie. Murphy is the oldest and “my” cat from college. Maggie and Marbles joined the family in October 2011 when our local pound was going to euthanize all of their animals for lack of space. We picked them up on a trial basis and they ended up staying. To identify them in pictures, remember that Murphy is black with a little white scruff under his neck, Maggie is black and small, and Marbles has white spots and ridiculous whiskers.
We have a variety of family members that live nearby, the most frequently mentioned being Jesse, Matt’s brother, and Ashley, his fiancee. Kay is my sister in Ottawa, who occasionally pops up on this blog. Two friends, Kat and Bob, are also frequently mentioned/pictured — they live here in town and we hang out with them more than anyone else.
If you’re utterly confused as to who someone is, let me know and I’ll clear things up!
Why do you blog?
I started blogging back in Grade 9, as sort of an easier way to keep a diary. Since then I’ve blogged for many reasons. By keeping Northern Exposure, I’m trying to have a written recollection of my thoughts, feelings, and adventures over the years. I have a terrible memory and this helps!
I also spend all of my time writing for work, so it’s nice to have a non-work outlet to keep my skills sharp.
How often do you blog?
I try to post every weekday. Sometimes I take on challenges in which I try to post every day for a time period.
Where can I find _____ post?
My method of organizing blog posts is quite broad. Most entries go into Daily Life, which covers the every day goings-on in my world. Happenings is for bigger things, like birthdays, travel, or current events. Thoughts & Dreams is a little more introspective, while Health & Wellbeing is self-explanatory. If I’m dealing with food it goes into the Kitchen category. I occasionally tackle issues of fashion, style and beauty, which is filed under Clothes and Such.

Can I ask another question?
