Celebrating Everyday Moments {GIVEAWAY!}

Sorry for the delay/lack of posting — there’s something wacky going on with my blog host. Hopefully the hiccups have been dealt with and this will actually post!

I am participating in the YOPA Blogger Campaign by Mom Central Canada on behalf of General Mills, and received compensation as a thank you for participating and for sharing my honest opinion. The opinions on this blog are my own.

I’ve tried the whole gratitude journal thing before – writing down the things for which you’re thankful, big and small, every night. But I’m really bad at sticking to a routine and the journal ends up ignored after a few days. For the past few months, though, I’ve been part of an online group that does ‘Happy Fridays’, during which we share what part of our day or week has made us happy.

Sometimes it’s a big thing – we bought a house, we finished the drywall, we’re having family visit – and sometimes I find myself digging a bit harder to find something small, or turn a bad thing around. This Friday, for instance, will hopefully feature some variation on ‘my awful cold didn’t actually kill me’ or ‘Matt found me a shower caddy that fits in my weird narrow shower so the body wash will stop bruising my foot every time it falls down.’

Really, though, those everyday celebrations happen more often than the big stuff. Birthdays happen once a year. Christmas happens once a year. People rarely win the lottery or buy a new car, but how often do you stop to appreciate a particularly sunny day, or a delicious breakfast, or a nice hug from a loved one?

A few of my most recent things to celebrate:

  • Our cat had to go to the vet – but her injury is not as dire as it seemed and she’s almost back to being her regular affectionate self.
  • All that’s left to do to get the nursery structurally finished is cutting, painting and installing trim, and then it’s on to painting the closet, setting up furniture and decorating!
  • I got to take a bath last week, because Matt fixed the leaky faucet, installed a new spout, cleaned up the whole thing and tracked down the shower curtain and bathmat.
  • Cheesecake-flavoured Greek yogurt. Enough said.

If I could eat pastries and sweets all day I would, but that’s probably not a good idea, even when not pregnant. I’ll eat the occasional donut, but really, I should be striving for healthy food for me and baby. So, I was really psyched to have the opportunity to try YOPA!

I love Greek yogurt, and I really love finding it in new, unexpected flavours – our local grocery store stocks your basic blueberry, strawberry, and plain, but cheesecake, vanilla bean, mango and pina colada flavoured yogurt?! Yum.

Here’s something that might make you celebrate – I have a giveaway of a $100 YOPA! prize pack! It’s open to Canadians over 18 (sorry, American friends). You may have seen this giveaway on other blogs – you can enter across however many blogs you’d like, but can only win once. Please note — as always, contests can only be entered once (you can do each part of the Rafflecopter draw as it indicates, but you can’t use a separate identity to enter again).
